Following my first ever match in Queen City Wrestling, I had done one of the worst possible things I could have, I laid down in my match with Brittany Williams, angering the fans and the boss alike. Chelsea Taylor called me back and ripped my ass up and down. She could have fired me, and I know my mother would have loved that, but she didn’t. She saw something in me that maybe I didn’t even see in myself, and that is why she gave me another chance.
…I owed her, I owed B-Brat, I owed the fans, and I owed myself…
I sat down in the media room aboard the Red Queen, the ship that my wife and I now lived on and I readied myself as the satellite feed kicked in and I was greeted by Robin Reynolds, Queen City’s backstage interviewer…
Robin Reynolds: Mrs. Lacklan, how are you doing this evening?
Kenzi Lacklan: Wonderful Robin, how about you?
Robin Reynolds: First, let me say it’s a pleasure to get to talk to you. I realize that you have a very busy schedule with your other wrestling promotion and your new television program with your tag team partner, Roxy Cotton. So, thank you for taking the time.
Kenzi Lacklan: It’s the least I can do, especially after my performance on the first show.
Robin Reynolds: Yes, what about that? We heard there was history between you and Brittany Williams, so we expected a war…instead we got…whatever that was. Can you tell us what that was all about?
Kenzi Lacklan: I don’t want to make any excuses, I should not have done that, but after listening to her interview, there was no way I could go out there and fight her. She basically blamed me for every bad thing that has ever happened to her, because I deserted her. I’d love to tell you that was all crap, but it really wasn’t! I did use her…I did abandon her…I hurt her and that is unforgivable. I just couldn’t see myself fighting her and knowing that I had already caused her a lot of pain. She never asked for that, and I am ashamed for doing what I did.
Robin Reynolds: So, are things good between you two now? I saw that she is your guest coach this week on your game show.
Kenzi Lacklan: Well, to be honest, I don’t even know. She tweeted me once…
Kenzi Lacklan: …but she hasn’t said anything else or reached out to help with the dance team. I guess she just needs more space, and I am going to give it to her.
Robin Reynolds: Let’s talk about next week. You and Roxy Cotton make history as you compete against Ximena Asensio and Claire Rogers in Queen City’s first tag team match. What can we expect?
Kenzi Lacklan: Well, it’s my second chance to make a good first impression and who better to do it with than with Rox? The promo for this match said that Rox and I had experience working together, but that’s not exactly true. Actually, we had never been in the same ring together until two weeks ago in UGWC. Still, Rox has been like a sister to me since The Cool Kids became a thing. I get along with her like no one’s business and I know that all of the time we have spent hanging out together is going to count for something in that match!
Robin Reynolds: Claire Rogers seemed to think that the two of you were being a bit arrogant about your chances. Can you address that?
Kenzi Lacklan: I think Claire was just trying to make a mountain out of a molehill. She and Xim want to win, and Rox and I want to win. People will say things to get under each other’s skin, but like I told Claire, it’s a match and then afterwards we go right back to being friends working together to help put QCP on the map!
Robin Reynolds: You sure have a positive outlook on things! One final question; we have noticed a freelance journalist all over social media talking about your past and vowing to blow the lid off of what he calls your ‘false persona.’ What’s going on, and is there any merit to any of that?
Kenzi Lacklan: No there isn’t and I will deal with Mr. Quinn before this thing gets too far out of hand. Do I have a past? Yes, I sure do! A lot of women inside QCP know a hell of a lot about me and what I have done, but all I can do is try to be better now. Some may not believe me until I show them different, others may never believe me no matter what I say or do, but all I can do is be the best me that I can possibly be.
Robin Reynolds: There you have it! Cool Kids verse Ximena Asensio and Claire Rogers at Episode 2. Don’t miss it!
As the media feed ended, I sat back in my seat and blew out a hard sigh of exasperation. Queen City Pro was supposed to be a new start for me, but instead I found myself still haunted by my past demons. I was left wondering if I was ever going to be able to run fast or far enough to escape them.
I knew at least one person who had no intentions of letting me…
